GHK-Cu

🔹 What is GHK-Cu?

Class: Naturally occurring tripeptide (Glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) complexed with copper. Mechanism: Regulates gene expression related to tissue repair, anti-inflammatory pathways, antioxidant defense, and collagen synthesis. Promotes wound healing, angiogenesis, hair growth, and skin regeneration. Copper ion chelation enhances enzymatic activity for tissue remodeling and antioxidant defense. Also used to help regenerate skin in diabetic skin ulcers specifically. Reported cosmetic benefits include stimulating hair growth, tightening loose skin, improving elasticity, improving skin density/firmness, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing photodamage and hyperpigmentation, increasing keratinocyte proliferation, and stimulating nail growth. It also appears to defend against tumors, restores replicative vitality to fibroblasts following radiation therapy, and modulates the activity of metalloproteinases and their inhibitors—part of how it supports tissue remodeling. GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper complex of glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, first isolated from human plasma (also found in saliva and urine).

Age-related decline: Plasma GHK levels run around 200 ng/ml at age 20 but fall to roughly 80 ng/ml by age 60—a decline that tracks with reduced regenerative and rejuvenative capacity as we age, and part of the rationale behind supplementation in older adults.
