Types of Pens

There’s a lot of variations in the pens. It’s really hard to definitively say “this one is the best”. They all get the job done but each one feels a little different. If you want a no-fuss, solid pen that a lot of people like, I suggest the V1 thin. The V2 is also a popular generic pen. There are also brand name options out there (Savvio, Novo, Allstar) but they all inject quite accurately - several studies and community anecdata support this. Each pen has its own unique mechanism, feel, weight, materials, etc. While some pen pals care a lot about this, others don’t really care for the difference much. Ultimately, it all comes down to personal preference and it’s quite hard to know whether or not you’ll like a specific pen until you try it. Brief summary

V1 thin - 80u clicky. High quality for a generic pen. Commonly recommended pen to start with.
V1 - 60u. thicker body with chrome ring like the V2 body.
V2 - Clicky like V1 but a little more “muted” / less tactile than the V1 thin. 60u. V2 and V3 pens are the only pens that hide the needle. Comes in more colors than the other pens.
V3 - Available on Alibaba/Aliexpress. A V1 thin with a V2 style cap. Few, if any, domestic vendors carry. Some people have had luck ordering from Aliexpress; others unfortunately were shipped a V2 pen.
White plastic pen - 80u; internal mechanism of the V1 thin. There’s 60u variation of this pen that also exists.
Savvio - Smooth. I believe it’s the only pen with no audible clicks.
Luxura - A fantastic pen from what I’ve heard. Supposedly an elevated Savvio. Have not tried.
Ergo 2 - Cheap plastic pen from Lilly; 60u. Some people like the ergonomic shape.
Novo 4 - Clicky, tactile, smooth (all Novos require an adapter and a mod; can be pre-modded)
Novo 5 - Clicky, tactile, smooth, screen + dose memory
Novo 6 - Clicky, tactile, smooth, screen + dose memory + pairs with Android phone
Novo Echo Plus - Same as Novo 6 but in half units. Only goes up to 30u.
Allstar - Clicky. short pen. Very light and good for small hands.
Allstar Pro - Same mechanism as the Allstar but with a metal outer shell.
Clickstar and JuniorStar - Other Sanofi pens. Juniorstar is great for small hands. Clickstar is the predecessor to the Allstar.
Other generic pens from Alibaba/Aliexpress - There are several other generic pens out there but I haven’t tried them yet. Auto pens: Great for large volume shots. Advances the piston rod with a spring mechanism but inserting the needle is still manual.
Gansulin pen - Chinese version of the Servopen autopen, from Ypsomed. Hold the top button to dispense. The more premium autopen in price and materials.
Bird pen - Side trigger button can be a game-changer for some peeps. Beloved by some pen pals here and the price is much better than the Gansulin. Plastic body. Wraps are available for those who may not care very much for this pen’s color.
Owen Mumford - autopen. only does up to 22u I believe. (discontinued - hard to find) My personal favorite are the NovoPens for being tactile and smooth but I want to emphasize that personal preference is a huge factor. The Savvio and Luxura are also commonly praised as great pens, people who like the Allstars really like them, and the V1 thins and V2 are probably the most commonly used generic pens.
